Hi, everyone. Thanks for stopping by my site. My biggest update is the shelter animal adoption fair I had a few weeks ago. Once again, I paired up with Loving All Animals to hold a big adoption fair at The River in Rancho Mirage on Saturday, May 4th. The incredible part is five animal shelters/organizations worked with us and brought animals. I think it is wonderful when the animal community works together. The Animal Care Center of Indio, Animal Samaritans,  Coachella Valley Animal Campus, Humane Society, and the Palm Springs Animals Shelter joined forces with us...and we had 70 dogs and cats total! Our theme was "It's a jungle out there for homeless animals", because, is it not? Well, after the event, 40 of them now have forever homes. Here's what I learned: yes, it may be impossible to make the world a perfect place, but it is really and truly SO easy to make it a BETTER place. I am indebted to the volunteers that helped set up and tear down, The River maintenance staff that carried supplies, Desert Moving Co. which volunteered their moving services for us, and every single person who adopted or came by to hold a dog and show it what even temporary love is like.

Summer is creeping in as is the heat, but I know it's going to be a great one! Stay tuned...

XO,
B

So proud to say my first philanthropic effort was a huge success. For months, I had been planning a benefit for the Animal Care Center of Indio (where I adopted my dog, Jack, from) with local non-profit Loving All Animals. The inaugural "Faith, Hope, and Pups" event was Sunday, February 24th at the Eldorado Polo Club in Indio. We sold out and even had to add more tables and chairs! What a good problem to have! People enjoyed a polo match while they had a chance to bid on silent and live auction items. We even had a fashion show of adoptable dogs during intermission, and we got three adopted out. I plan to hold a benefit in the desert every year, becasue there are many animals in need here, and so many people with love to give. Remember, "Faith, Hope, and Pups, and the greatest of these is pups!"

I am so excited and honored to say, after almost three months of practicing, my partner and I took first place in Dancing With the Desert Stars! The tango was fierce and the cha cha was smooth and electric - and so fun! It was a magical evening - magical because my family was there from Chicago, magical because my colleagues started a chant of "B, B, B" louder than you can even imagine when the judges were announcing the winners, but mostly magical because the event raised $73,000 for the 100 Women program of Desert Aids Project. It just shows you what amazing things people can do together. It was an honor to be a part of DWTDS.

I also hosted the 2013 Queen Scheherazade Scholarship Pageant this weekend like I did last year. I absolutely love hosting, and the ability to truly be myself and let my personality shine through.  These young ladies I met were remarkably talented, and all have very bright futures. The court was chosen to serve for the next year; all prep for the Riverside County Fair and Date Festival!

I am heading home to Chicago tomorrow to spend Thanksgiving with my family. I'm looking forward to a cozy day in the suburbs with my big Greek and Italian family on Thursday, followed by a fast-paced and glamorous day of shopping, lunch, and lights all while submerged in the hustle and bustle of the city on Friday.  I hope ya'll enjoy the holiday. Stay tuned for my next endeavor! Chat soon.

Hi, everyone! Thanks so much for visiting my site. Life here in the desert is wonderful. With summer almost behind us, we are on the cusp of the most enviable weather! This midwest girl can honestly say a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte just isn't the same when it's 85 and sunny with not a cloud in the sky in November...but.....yes, exactly.

My newest project is Dancing With the Desert Stars! It's the local version of the hit ABC show! DWTDS is a charity event to raise money for the 100 Women organization of Desert Aids Project of Palm Springs. 100 Women helps keep women and children living with, affected by, or at-risk for HIV or AIDS living longer and stronger. It's an incredible cause. Eight "desert stars" are paired with eight professional dancers. The show is on Friday, November 16th at the Renaissance Palm Springs.

My partner and I had our first practice today, and I am so excited for this competition. I love dancing and being active, so this is great for me, except for the fact that I can sometimes be the clumsiest and least graceful person on the planet. Here goes nothin'! I will keep you informed of our journey along the way!
